The Wanocksett Adventure Team is a unique opportunity for older Scouts (ages 14 and up) to participate in challenging high adventure activities that are not available to the rest of the camp.
Morning Program – The Wanocksett Adventure Team runs Project C.O.P.E. each morning from 9:00AM until 12:00PM, running through the first two merit badge classes as well as Patrol Time. After a day of initiative games, and a safety/equipment training session, participants then spend the remainder of the week on the low and high C.O.P.E. courses. The low course includes elements 12 feet above the ground and under, while the high course ranges from 15 to 40 feet off the ground. Some activities involve a group challenge, while others test individual skills. Participants climb, jump, balance, swing, and find many solutions to a variety of challenges. Group activities are ideal for emphasizing the patrol method and developing leadership skills. Individual challenges build confidence and self-reliance. The activities are not designed to be competitive, or to be a race against time, but rather a means to learn the values of leadership, trust, teamwork, self-esteem, problem solving, communication, and decision-making.
Troop Leadership Development – Meeting during the third MB session, our NEW Troop Leadership Development Program is a great way to get your new SPL, ASPL, or PL some great leadership experience. Scouts will participate in initiative games and low and high C.O.P.E. course elements, all with a focus on how to become a better troop officer.
Afternoon Program – The Adventure Team offers a number of activities for scouts of all ages in the afternoon. These programs include mountain boarding, mountain biking, bike rides, Low C.O.P.E. games, the zip line, and a special day at the climbing tower to experience some extra special climbing activities!
