Camp Wanocksett Firewood Quarantine

Visitors to Camp Wanocksett are reminded that, in accordance with state regulations, to help prevent the spread of invasive species, outside firewood is not permitted at Camp Wanocksett. Visitors are requested to leave firewood at home.

An infestation of Asian Longhorn Beetles and Emerald Ash Borers in central Worcester County, and Berkshire Country has prompted the USDA and Massachusetts DCR to impose a quarantines prohibiting the transport of natural wood materials (e.g., twigs, branches, trunks, logs, stumps, etc.) from areas in Western and Central Massachusetts. The State of New Hampshire has issued a similar quarantine prohibiting importing firewood from outside of the state.

Asian Longhorn Beetles and Emerald Ash Borers are an invasive and destructive species that cause significant damage to hardwood forests. Transporting firewood is one means for these invasive pests to migrate.

To aid in the containment of this infestation, and to protect the beauty of Camp Wanocksett,  Nashua Valley Council requests that no outside firewood be brought into camp. For more information on the damage caused and efforts to combat these pests please visit

Unit leaders and visitors, are asked to assist in this effort by leaving firewood at home.
