Training Programs in the BSA

Trained leaders are the key to a successful Pack, Troop, Team or Crew. Training helps unit leaders deliver a quality, safe Scouting program to youth. The Boy Scouts of America offers a variety of training programs to assist unit leaders in accomplishing the mission of the BSA in their own Troops. The various names and acronyms of these trainings can become confusing for new leaders. Follow the links below for an summary of the training available at each level of the BSA.

What Makes a Trained Leader?

A leader is considered trained when the complete the proscribed courses for their position. Click the heading above to see the requirments for each position and program.

Supplemental Training

In addition to basic leader training a variety of supplemental trainings are available. Watch this page for programs offered through Nashua Valley or neighboring councils.

Online Learning

The Boy Scouts of America has made a number of training programs available online at the Online Learning Center. Access to the online training modules requires a myscouting.org account. Training youth in leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives is an integral part of the Boy Scout's mission. Nashua Valley Council offers youth training courses throughout the year. Nashua Valley Council also partners with neighboring councils to make training available to youth.

The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs.

Nashua Valley Council offers numerous training courses throughout the year to prepare our volunteers to deliver the Scouting program. Most training is free to participants. Nashua Valley also partners with neighboring councils to make training available to our volunteers.
