Adult Training

Nashua Valley Council offers numerous training courses throughout the year to prepare our volunteers to deliver the Scouting program. Most training is free to participants. Nashua Valley also partners with neighboring councils to make training available to our volunteers.

When: May 11, 2013 8-11 AM
Where: Camp Split Rock, Ashburnham, MA
Cost: There is no charge for this training

This training program is for Cub Scout leaders who are new to the program or the position, or just need to bring their knowledge up to date. The course aims to help leaders gain confidence that the challenge is a manageable one, and understand the resources available to support them in this role.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a one-day training event that introduces leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping.This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack campout.

At least one adult leader per Pack is required to have this training for any outdoor activities!

Basic, position specific training for Cub Scout leaders is now available online at www.myscouting.org. This includes training for: Tiger Den Leaders, Wolf Den Leaders, Bear Den Leaders, Webelos Den Leaders, Cubmaster, Pack Trainer, and Pack Committee. Cub Scout leaders are considered to be fully trained once they have completed the following courses: This is Scouting, Cub Scout Fast Start, Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific, and Youth Protection.

The Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills is a two day course that prepares you to teach your Scouts the outdoor skills needed for the Arrow of Light, Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. It's an enjoyable weekend with knowledgeable Scouters, with lots of hands-on instruction and practice in campsite selection and Leave No Trace, woods tools and fire building, cooking and sanitation, hiking, first aid, and planning outdoor programs.

You must attend both sessions to complete the course.

This is required training for those who wish to fill the new Leave No Trace Position of Responsibility in their unit. For youth who are going to fill a unit’s Leave No Trace Trainer Position, Nashua Valley Council strongly recommends that the troop pay for this required training.
