In recent weeks there has been a great deal of media coverage, and Internet reports regarding the Boy Scouts of America’s membership policies. The Boy Scouts of America has begun a comprehensive effort to engage our stakeholders and listen to their perspectives and concerns regarding the BSA’s membership policies. Nashua Valley Council is working with the National Office to coordinate this process within our council territory.
This is a subject that elicits strong feelings across the spectrum of opinions. As we engage in this conversation within our Scouting family, and within our communities, we must temper our emotions with patience, and thoughtful discourse. This dialog will be most productive if we maintain respect for everyone’s views, and keep the Scouting principles of courteous, kind and friendly in mind
Feedback from our members will take the form of an online survey, and local meetings with stakeholders.
Our council’s Executive Board will use the feedback gathered to formulate a recommendation to the National Council. The outcome of this process will be a resolution presented to the National Council of the BSA at its annual meeting in May. Nashua Valley Council will be represented at that meeting and will vote on the final resolution.
The Voice of the Scout (VOS) survey is scheduled to launch on Friday, March 8th. This survey will include questions seeking opinions about the potential change to the national membership standards that will be considered at the National Annual Meeting in May.
If you provided an email address as part of your unit's recharter then you should receive the survey. If you didn't provide an email you still have an opportunity to participate in this survey.
If not, you can still get the survey by clicking here http://scouting.us.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0lecWOay3bPbczP to register your email. You will need your membership ID number to register (if you don’t know it the council can help).
Nashua Valley Council will hold an information meeting to educate Parents, volunteers, and charter partner representatives on this review process, and provide an opportunity for feedback, on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 PM at the Weston Auditorium at Fitchburg State University.
