Welcome to Camp Wanocksett

Welcome to the Camp Wanocksett, the centerpiece of the Nashua Valley Council camping program since 1924. For more than 80 years Scouts from all across New England and beyond have gathered on the shores of Thorndike Pond, in the shadow of Mount Monadnock to experience the fun and adventure that is Boy Scout summer camp. Our dedicated staff and committment to customer service help ensure that each boy who visits Camp Wanocksett will experience the best that Scouting has to offer. Join us. Be part of the Wanocksett Experience.

New docks improve waterfront

Visitors to Camp Wanocksett's waterfront this summer will find brand new swimming docks. Funded through a grant from George Magee foundation, the new molded plastic docks replace aging aluminum docks purchased in the 1980s. The new docks are lighter, easier to move, and more stable in the water. The old docks will be repurposed for the boating areas and some portions transported to Camp Split Rock which uses a similar dock system.

The dock replacement is part of Nashua Valley Council's continued committment to improving our summer camp facilities and offering the best summer camp experience possible for our Scouts.

Project COPE course to open this summer

After being out of service for more than a year, following damage from fallen trees, the Camp Wanocksett Project COPE high course has been reopened for the 2009 summer camp season. Repairs to the course were conducted over the last year by volunteers from the camping and COPE/Climbing committees with funds provided by the Nashua Valley Council. The work has been inspected by a representative of the Association for Challenge Course Technology, the industry organization that determines construction standards for ropes courses. The high course will be operated for older scouts participating in Project COPE this summer.

Wanocksett welcomes Vermont Troops

Nashua Valley Council wishes our friends in Vermont a speedy resolution to the current difficulties at Mount Norris.

In an effort to help, Camp Wanocksett has opened the remaining available campsites to troops displaced by this situation, and agreed to match Mount Norris's price for this summer. Individual scouts are also welcome to attend through our provisional troop. Troops or parents should contact the Nashua Valley Council service center at 978-534-3532 for more information and campsite availability.

Medical Form Clarifications

In the Fall of 2008 the Boy Scouts America released a new medical form titled "Annual Health and Medical Record." This form is intended to replace the older Class 1, 2, and 3 forms and to standardize the medical records across all activities.

For many years Nashua Valley Council has used a modified version of the BSA Class 3 medical form for our camping programs. The modifications were necessary to ensure that our medical records complied with state regulations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The new form has been reviewed by the Council Health and Safety committee. They have determined that this form does not contain sufficient information to comply with the state regulations. Therefore the modified Class 3 form will remain the required form for all camping programs for the 2009 summer camp season. This form is available for download from the camp Web site. The new BSA forms will not be accepted by the camp health officers.

Modifications to the new BSA form are being reviewed by the Council Health and Safety and Camping committees. It is likely that a modified version of the new form will be adopted for the 2010 summer camp season.
