The 2018 Merit Badge University will be held on three Saturdays, February 10, February 24, and March 10 at Fitchburg State University. Scouts have the opportunity to work on earning two merit badges over the course of the three days. Scouts should plan to attend all three sessions. Registration opens January 1. Class space is limited. Register early.
The following classes are available this year: American Business, Automotive Maintenance, Chess, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Digital Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science, First Aid, Genealogy, Music, Oceanography, Personal Management, Photography, Pioneering, Programming, Robotics, and Weather.
Scouts are strongly encouraged to discuss their choices with their Scoutmaster, and to consider the guidelines below prior to registering.

Difficulty Rating = 1-5, Easiest to hardest.
American Business - Difficulty level 3. First period only
Automotive - Difficulty level 1.
Chess - Difficulty level 1.
Citizenship in the Community- Difficulty level 4. Eagle required. First Class or above preferred. This merit badge requires additional work outside of class in order to complete in the time frame of Merit Badge University. Instructor will contact attendees prior to the first class to share additional information on pre-work that will need to completed by first session on 2/10/18
Citizenship in the Nation - Difficulty level 4. Eagle required. Second perior only. First Class or above preferred.
Citizenship in the World - Difficulty level 4. Eagle required.
Communications - Difficulty level 4. Eagle required. First Class or above preferred.
Digital Technology - Difficulty level 3.
Engineering - Difficulty level 5.
Environmental Science - Difficulty level 3. Eagle required. Complete requirement #6. First class or above preferred. One requirement will be completed after the sessions are finished over the summer/fall.
Entrepreneurship - Difficulty level 3. Better suited to more mature scouts. Must work in teams to build a business.
First Aid - Difficulty level 4. Eagle required. Scouts should be First Class or Second Class and complete all lower rank First Aid requirements. Requirement #4 - decide on a topic for a) or b).
Genealogy - Difficulty level 1.
Music - Difficulty level 3.
Oceanography - Difficulty level 3.
Personal Management - Difficulty level 4. Eagle required. Begin requirement 2.
Photography - Difficulty level 2. Camera needed.
Pioneering - Difficulty level 3. Participants are recommended to have successfully completed: Scout requirements 4a and 4b, Tenderfoot requirements 3a, 3b, 3c, as well as 4a, 4b, and 4c, Second Class requirements 2f and 2g, and First Class requirements 3a, 3b, and 3c.
Programming - Difficulty level 3.
Robotics - Difficulty level 3. Tenderfoot rank recommended.
Weather - Difficulty level 2.
