This training is for Cub Scout Den and Webelos leaders who are new to the program or to their position, or just need to bring their knowledge up to date. The course aims to help leaders gain confidence that the challenges they face are manageable ones and that resources are available to support them in their role.

During this training you will learn the nuts and bolts of your position including advancement, literature and helps, uniforming, rules and regulations, the outdoor program and the fun of the program. This training is conducted as a classroom where you will find many other leaders with the same goals, seeking ideas and eager to share their results with you.

Den Leader training covers Tiger through Webelos.

Into to Outdoor Leadership Skils

The Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills is a two day course that prepares you to teach your Scouts the outdoor skills needed for the Arrow of Light, Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. It's an enjoyable weekend with knowledgeable Scouters, with lots of hands-on instruction and practice in campsite selection and Leave No Trace, woods tools and fire building, cooking and sanitation, hiking, first aid, and planning outdoor programs.

Basic Adult Leader Training Online

Basic, position specific training is available online for unit leaders and committee members of all programs at my.scouting.org. This includes training for:  Cub Masters, Den Leaders, Pack Committee, Scoutmasters & Assistants, Troop Committee, Merit Badge Counselors, Crew Advisers, Crew Committee, Crew Board of Review, Sea Scout Leaders, Exploring Advisers, Exploring Commitee.

To access the online training modules visit my.scouting.org. Login or create a new account. Click on the BSA LEARN CENTER on the right side of the scree. Select the appropriate program (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing). Be sure to input your membership id from your latest membership card to ensure that your training is recorded accurately. Contact the council service center for assistance.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

When: May 12, 2018 9AM-5PM

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program. Training in outdoor skills is required before taking any scouts on outings. BALOO - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation is designed for Cub Scout leaders and is a one-day training event that introduces participants to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. This energetic training will provide the necessary knowledge and skills for a pack to be able to go Family Camping. It will cover everything you need to know to plan and run an overnighter. BALOO is more than just camping; it includes:

  • Ideas for outdoor activities, games and ceremonies
  • Information on selecting and using camping equipment
  • How to run a campfire program
  • Cooking

This training is required for any adult leader who is in charge of planning a pack campout and it is required that at least one adult per pack complete BALOO training in order to apply for tour plans. There is no fee for this course. Participants need to bring their own lunch, water bottle and any snack items. Coffee will be provided.

Cub Scout Committee Member Specific
