This training program is for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters who are new to the position or just need to bring their knowledge up to date. The course aims to help leaders gain confidence that the challenge is a manageable one, and understand the resources available to support them in this role.

Shooing Sports Training Opportunities

This fall the Nashua Valley Council Shooting Sports Committee in conjunction with Harvard Crew 250 will be hosting a variety of both NRA and USA Archery Instructor Certification Courses in the following disciplines. Registration deadlines are usually 4 weeks ahead of the start of each course but vary by number of participants and Instructors. Our courses usually fill early so if you are interested in one of the courses don’t wait to sign up. Into to Outdoor Leadership Skils

The Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills is a two day course that prepares you to teach your Scouts the outdoor skills needed for the Arrow of Light, Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. It's an enjoyable weekend with knowledgeable Scouters, with lots of hands-on instruction and practice in campsite selection and Leave No Trace, woods tools and fire building, cooking and sanitation, hiking, first aid, and planning outdoor programs.

Cub Scout Leader Training Online

Basic, position specific training for Cub Scout leaders is now available online at This includes training for: Tiger Den Leaders, Wolf Den Leaders, Bear Den Leaders, Webelos Den Leaders, Cubmaster, Pack Trainer, and Pack Committee. Cub Scout leaders are considered to be fully trained once they have completed the following courses: This is Scouting, Cub Scout Fast Start, Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific, and Youth Protection.

Outdoor Skills for Webelos Leaders(OWL)

Designed specifically for Webelos den leaders and their assistants, the Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders course teaches outdoor-related skills through demonstration and hands-on practice. Webelos den leaders should attend this training before conducting Webelos overnight camping with the boys and parents of the den. In addition to covering basic camping skills, this training features planning campouts and finding resources.

Webelos den campouts serve to move the Webelos Scout to the next level of BSA's ever-increasing challenge in the outdoors. The Webelos overnight camping experience helps introduce the boy and his parent will be introduced to the basics of Boy Scout camping.

Bring a bag lunch and a water bottle.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

When: June 10, 2017 9AM-5PM

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program. Training in outdoor skills is required before taking any scouts on outings. BALOO - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation is designed for Cub Scout leaders and is a one-day training event that introduces participants to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. This energetic training will provide the necessary knowledge and skills for a pack to be able to go Family Camping. It will cover everything you need to know to plan and run an overnighter. BALOO is more than just camping; it includes:

  •  Ideas for outdoor activities, games and ceremonies
  •  Information on selecting and using camping equipment
  •  How to run a campfire program
  •  Cooking

This training is required for any adult leader who is in charge of planning a pack campout and it is required that at least one adult per pack complete BALOO training in order to apply for tour plans. There is no fee for this course. Participants need to bring their own lunch, water bottle and any snack items. Coffee will be provided.

Wilderness First Aid Training

When: October 21-22, 2017 8 AM - 5 PM both days.

Train for Emergencies in Wilderness and Remote Environments

This is a two day training. Participants must attend 8 AM - 5 PM both days. Ideal for scouts and leaders, our new 16-hour Wilderness and Remote First Aid course gives you the skills and confidence you need to respond to an emergency when help may be delayed. The course meets BSA requirements for wilderness first aid training among all crews participating in national and council high adventure camps. Course participants must be at least 14 years of age and possess current certification in adult CPR/AED.

This course satisfies the first aid training requirements for the national high adventure bases. Course size is limited to 8 participants.
