In March of 2016 the Nashua Valley Council Executive Board approved the Camp Wanocksett Long-Range Plan for 2016-2020. This plan is the result of the dedicated efforts of the Camp Long-Range Planning Committee, a sub-committee of the Council Camping Committee. Its purpose is to develop and maintain a framework for the future development and management of the Council’s camping facilities and programs. Members of the committee were selected based on their skill set, history and involvement with the camping program, and their current position in Scouting.
The future direction for Camp Wanocksett, as presented in this document, comes from the views and information of volunteers and professionals who have spent their time and money to provide the best camping experience for the Scouts of the Nashua Valley Council.
Information for this document was gathered from a variety of sources, including, interviews with summer camp staff, as well as responses from a survey distributed to those members of the council who use the camping facilities. Through these questionnaires, the users of the facilities have been able to share how they see the facilities and the improvements that they would like to see in the future. A focus group of Scouts who currently attend camp was held and lead by the youth representative of the committee. All of the feedback generated was reviewed by the Long Range Planning Committee and, where possible, incorporated into this plan.
This plan is a fluid document. Its purpose is to provide a recommended course of action for members of the Nashua Valley Council to take in the future development of Camp Wanocksett. As with any plan, changes may be made to adjust to the current and future needs of the camp. The Council will periodically review this plan and revise it as necessary to ensure that it remains true to the stated goals.
The projects outlined in this plan align with goals established by the committee and with the Nashua Valley Council Strategic Plan. These projects include documentation, recruitment, building, and program generation. Annually, the camping committee and properties committee will review the progress of projects outlined in this plan and set goals for the upcoming year as part of the Continuous Camp Improvement Plan. This necessary step is required as part of the National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP).
